No matter what the occasion, we all love the fun of having a party. Enjoying some tasty treats goes along with any party. Often it is important that at least some of the treats be gluten free foods for your friends and loved ones that has a gluten intolerance. When preparing the food for the celebration, make sure that you identify the gluten free food because people with celiac disease are unable to eat many foods, primarily foods made with wheat, rye, barley or oats. Food like breads, cookies, cake, pie, pastas and pizza almost always contain gluten. It's not that hard these days to make gluten free bread, a gluten free pizza or even gluten free peanut butter cookies.
There are now many companies that provide a wide range of gluten free products which can be ordered online if they are not available at your local supermarket. Some of these companies offer gluten free bread, cakes, cookies and even gluten free pizza crust for your parties. Their products are manufactured in a dedicated gluten free environment which sometimes is also dairy free and nut free. With more and more people being diagnosed with celiac disease, it is important to provide at least one or two gluten free foods for those who are limited in their food choices. It is very important to not only clearly indicate which foods are gluten free but also to be extra careful about any cross contamination from other foods. Even a few crumbs of a food which contain gluten can cause severe problems for most celiacs.
Their is a wide range in the quality of either homemade or store bought gluten free foods. Homemade gluten free breads, cakes and other pastries tend to be dry. Adding some applesauce to the recipe often gives them some added moisture. Purchased gluten free products are often expensive but only by trying them can you determine if they are worth the additional cost. Gluten free flours (like rice flour) make it possible to try many recipes but usually only trial and error in the adjustment of ingredients is the only way to obtain really great taste.
About the Author
My wife is a celiac so I have had to help her deal with her eating limitations for many years. Fortunately she is a great cook and therefore has been able to adapt most recipes so that they are gluten free. One of my favorites is her gluten free banana bread. I think it is better than any other banana bread that I have ever eaten.
